Swire Shipping has announced that, effective immediately, every voyage of their North Asia service will be programmed to call at the Port of Timaru on a direct basis.

The move is in recognition of the progressive growth in cargo volumes to and from the region, says Tony Spelman, Swire Shipping’s corporate development manager.
“More regular sailings through this key South Island gateway will provide our customers with more direct access to their global markets via the range of connections available through the wider Swire Shipping network.

“The doubling of frequency to and from Timaru will assist both importers and exporters and also provides a valuable coastal connection from Auckland, and to Tauranga, capable of handling both containers and break bulk and project cargoes and equipment,” says Spelman.

The changes will be reflected on all voyages in the Commercial schedule commencing from Shantung v1706s, ETA Shanghai 11th March scheduled to arrive in Timaru on 20th April.

Swire Shipping operates four modern multi-purposes vessels on their North Asia service which can accommodate bulk, breakbulk, containers, machinery and vehicles. Ship cranes can cater for lifts up to 120mt and hatches are configured to enable cargo to be stowed under-deck up to 30m in length.

Dry, reefer and hazardous containerized cargo can all be accommodated with access to global markets.
