Allbirds, the New Zealand brand that specialises in shoes made from natural, sustainable materials, has enjoyed spectacular success in international markets since launching in 2016.

At the Better by Design CEO Summit in March, head of product design Jamie McLellan presented some fascinating insights into the brand’s philosophy – one that drove sales to more than one million pairs of shoes in just two years.

McLellan explains the journey that led them to commit to driving petro-chemicals out of an entire industry; to produce leading-edge carbon-negative footwear with broad appeal – including their remarkable wool runners.
