Breast imaging analytics provider Volpara Health Technologies is the winner of the 2019 ASB Wellington Exporter of the Year.
The award was announced recently at a gala dinner at the Intercontinental Hotel. Entrants had to be based in the Wellington region, which includes Horowhenua, Manawatu, Tararua, and Wairarapa down to Wellington.
Volpara also took home the WellingtonNZ Excellence in Innovation Award.
Other winners on the night were outdoor gear manufacturer Betacraft who won Wellington Airport Best Emerging Business and petrol station retail automation provider ITL who won CentrePort Best Medium/Large Business. Energy retail software provider Flux Federation won the Victoria Business School Judges’ Choice award.
Volpara’s win was well-earned, said John Milford, Chief Executive of the Wellington Chamber of Commerce.
“Volpara is an inspiring example of commercialising medical research to work towards their mission of minimising the impact of cancer on our families and communities. We’re lucky to have them doing all of this from Wellington.
“I also want to congratulate the other category winners and finalists. The awards are an excellent showcase of the broad range of companies in our region who are doing great things internationally, and pushing our local economy along.
“Exporters are the heroes of the New Zealand economy and we are proud to do our bit in supporting our local exporters reach their international goals.”
The ASB Exporter of the Year Award was presented by ASB’s Head of Trade Finance, Mike Atkins.

Special congratulations to this year’s ASB Exporter of the Year Volpara and to the rest of the category winners.”
The keynote speaker at the awards was Steve Gianoutsos, CEO of Mojo, who shared his story of taking Wellington’s coffee culture to Chicago in the United States.
Winners of the Best Emerging Business, Best Medium/Large Business and Excellence in Innovation Awards become automatic finalists in New Zealand Trade and Enterprise’s International Business Awards.
