Probiotic chocolate anyone? Cleveland-based Ganeden Biotech and Agostoni Chocolate have come out with a functional snack thatย combines probiotics with artisanย chocolate for consumers.
Theย product – Chocolate Plus Private Label — isย the first store brand functional snack program to bring together GanedenBC30 probiotic with premium Italian dark chocolate, according to a report by AsiaFoodJournal.com.

Designed to fit into retailer’s confectionary and wellness supplement categories, the Chocolate Plus Private Label program offers a mix-and-match approach for product feature and pricing flexibility.

Agostoni’s premium Italian dark chocolate contains 70% high cocoa content or 60% for a softer flavor profile, which can be sold with the GanedenBC30 probiotic alone, or with toasted flax seed, which contributes additional Omega oils.

The Chocolate Plus Private Label program provides two chocolate bar sizes of 0.5 ounce mini-bar or a 1.1 ounce snack bar.

โ€œConsumers are increasingly demanding both premium quality chocolate and the health benefits inherent to probiotics,โ€ said Andrew Lefkowitz, president and CEO of Ganeden Biotech.ย  โ€œSince this product is the best of both worlds, retailers can position it as an affordable luxury.โ€

Dr. Antonio Agostoniโ€”head of the chocolate makerโ€™s product development teamโ€”reports that GanedenBC30ยฎ delivered โ€œexcellent results in survivability of the bacteriaโ€”for health purposesโ€”and it does not interfere with our final premium flavor, making it an ideal functional chocolate solution.โ€
