At the 21st annual Wellington Gold Awards NZ Tube Mills won the Supreme Award and was named Global Gold category winner for their outstanding export sales success and innovation – thanks to their ECO TRELLIS® Horticultural Solutions product range.
Wellington Gold Awards director John Dow said judges were impressed with how a local company has successfully identified a niche in the global marketplace.
NZ Tube Mills has nearly tripled its export sales from $3.5 million in 2015 to nearly $10 million last year, with its record growth over the past year attributed largely to export growth in the US and Australian markets.
NZ Tube Mills general manager Terry Carter said the business has seen a transformation over recent years. The win was a “credit to the entire team at NZ Tube Mills for their vision to turn a dying business around into something we’re all very proud of”.
NZ Tube Mills was founded in the late 1950s as a precision tube mill supplying the New Zealand automotive industry. This was their core business until the early 2000s when they reinvented their business to become a pre-eminent supplier of steel horticultural trellis products. NZ Tube Mills is also the leading manufacturer of carbon steel precision tube and stainless tube for New Zealand, Australia and the Pacific Islands.
Since 2004 the company has worked closely with its customers to develop a range of revolutionary trellising solutions for the horticulture industry. The business focus is in the key areas of grape growing, kiwifruit, apples and other pipfruit, and berries.
