Nelson-based Tasman Bay Food Co. is aiming to keep Australian consumers cool this summer by launching its popular frozen fruit treat, Juicies, into Woolworths Australia.
For many here in New Zealand, the frozen fruit treat is synonymous with hot days and happy kids. Launched over 30 years ago, Juicies® has become an iconic brand for generations of Kiwis with over 10 million selling here every year. The frozen fruit treat in Tropical flavour is the number two selling product by volume in the ice cream family packs segment in New Zealand supermarkets.
While Juicies have been available in Australia in school canteens for 15 years, Aussie families have not been able to access the popular treat in retail. But that is set to change as Woolworths Australia will range Juicies in 900 stores across the country from late October. Woolworths are ranging the very popular Tropical flavour and it is hoped Wildberry and Lemonade flavours will follow in time.
“Juicies have proven popular in Australian school canteens, but it is a different ball game entering their retail sector.” says Marina Hirst Tristram, managing director of Tasman Bay Food Co. “The timing is now right for us, as we have recently invested significantly in improved automation in our production facility here in Nelson. This will help us efficiently increase production to cope with heavy demand, particularly over the summer months.”
“We have also reconsidered our markets with Covid-related challenges impacting our exports to Asia and schools in Australia. It is now a good time to focus on the retail sector of our closest neighbour and make it easier for our Australian fans, including the half million expat-kiwis, to find this favourite summer treat.”
Juicies® are made with real fruit (freshly pressed Nelson apples blended with tropical fruit juices) and have no added sugar, artificial flavours or preservatives. The packaging is 100 percent recyclable.
