FedEx Express has opened its largest station in Shanghai which is one of the fastest growing economies in China, totalling US$207.89 billion in imports and exports, up 21% year on year, according to the Shipping Gazette.
The facility is based in Pudong Sanlin to support pick-up and delivery of international express shipments for customers in the Huangpu, Jingan, Nanhui, Fengxian districts as well as parts of the Pudong New District and will connect with its gateway at Shanghai Pudong International Airport.
It occupies 5,140 square metres and can sort up to 3,500 shipments per hour through an advanced inbound and outbound shipment sorting system.
FedEx Asia Pacific president David Cunningham was quoted saying in contrast to the slow economic performance shown in western markets, China remains a driving force for the global economy
The new FedEx station in Shanghai allows customers in eastern China to benefit from increasing trade flows within the Asia Pacific region, and reaffirms the companyโs on-going commitment to providing best-in-class services in China, he added.
Its signing of a “strategic collaboration memorandum” with Shanghai Airport Group in June is a sign of its commitment and focus on the expansion of cargo and other operational facilities within the Shanghai Pudong International Airport.
FedEx currently has one international express gateway at the Pudong International Airport, five international express operation stations, one domestic service distribution centre and two domestic service operation stations. Source: Shipping Gazette
