Australian freight insurance innovator FreightInsure has launched its embedded goods-in-transit insurance platform in New Zealand, offering freight operators a fast, seamless way to provide cover for consignments at the point of booking.

The digital platform allows freight customers to instantly add โ€œpay-as-you-goโ€ insurance to individual shipments, with coverage of up to NZD$100,000 for loss or damage in transit โ€” without the complexity of bulk marine or annual policies. The solution is supported by global insurer HDI Global Specialty SE, which carries an AA- (S&P) and A+ (AM Best) financial strength rating.

Co-founder and CEO Simon Schwarz says the launch fills a critical gap in the local market, particularly as eCommerce continues to grow.

โ€œWeโ€™re excited to work alongside local freight companies and brokers to offer a modern insurance experience for goods in transit, even for low-value or one-off consignments,โ€ Schwarz says.

โ€œEmbedded insurance turns freight protection into a service thatโ€™s easy for customers to purchase, reducing disputes over lost or damaged goods, while offering operators a new source of revenue.โ€

The technology integrates directly into freight carrier, 3PL/4PL, and freight marketplace booking systems, allowing users to add insurance as easily as they would travel insurance when booking a flight. Claims are handled by FreightSafe, one of Australiaโ€™s largest independent transport claims managers, and the service offers a no-excess, fast claims process.

FreightInsure is already live with key partners in New Zealand, including InXpress, a global shipping and logistics franchise.

โ€œFreightInsureโ€™s service is second to none โ€” simple, efficient, and seamlessly integrated,โ€ says Michelle Price, Chief Commercial Officer for APAC at InXpress.

โ€œTheir launch in New Zealand allows even more of our customers to benefit from the same trusted protection and operational ease.โ€

The move follows FreightInsureโ€™s success in Australia, where it launched in 2022 and now serves clients in four Asia Pacific countries. Early adopters have reported increased uptake of insurance thanks to its simplified model.

Fiona Marshall, Director at Freight People, says the company has seen strong results since adopting the platform in Australia.

โ€œWhat sets FreightInsure apart is the speed and ease of their claims process โ€“ getting claims paid quickly means we and our customers can stay focused on business without unnecessary disruption,โ€ she says.

โ€œWeโ€™re genuinely excited to support their launch into New Zealand, where thereโ€™s a clear gap in the market.โ€

FreightInsure believes the platform is especially well-suited to New Zealandโ€™s fast-growing logistics sector, which is seeing healthy export volumes and a sharp increase in parcel and carton freight driven by online shopping.

The company, part of the FreightSafe Group, has been a consistent finalist for ANZIIFโ€™s Insurtech of the Year since 2023, and was recently named a Top Insurance Employer 2025 by Insurance Business.
