Glidepath, New Zealand’s airport baggage handling and security systems specialist, has been awarded a new terminal baggage handling and security system contract in Bermuda.
Scheduled for completion in 2020, international construction firm Aecon has awarded Glidepath a multi-million US dollar baggage and security systems contract for the new terminal at LF Wade International Airport Bermuda.
Situated at the northern most point of the Bermuda Triangle, Bermuda is a British Overseas Territory with an economy mainly made up of off shore insurance/reinsurance and tourism industries. Glidepath completed a similar contract out in the Atlantic at Nassau, Bahamas in 2013.
Aecon, a Canadian leader in infrastructure construction has worked with Glidepath on previous projects.
“Our longstanding reputation within the Canadian market as a leader in baggage handling systems integration provides experience and surety to our client that we can get the job done. Our products are in service in airports all over the world and our Project Management team are highly experienced and ready to get started,” says general manager–sales, Hamish Smith.
“The location of this project is certainly a bonus for those who will be on-site but I doubt they will have any time for sightseeing as the main priority is to satisfy our client beyond their expectations” says Smith.
Smith adds that it is timely that Emirates Team New Zealand are competing so strongly for the Americas Cup right now in Bermuda.
The outbound baggage system will contain state-of-the-art “GlideSort” high level control systems controlling two CT screening lines and sophisticated sortation systems. The inbound system comprises two reclaim carousels.
As the only airport serving Bermuda, the expansion will cater for future passenger growth whilst also incorporating best-in-class technologies.
