Genevaโ€™s Mediterranean Shipping Co plans to introduce a general rate increase on all containers transported from Asia to the US west and east coasts from December 15, according to the Shipping Gazette.

The shipping line said it is raising rates “in a response to the recent market rate deterioration and to follow the initial two-year step cost recovery programme”.

The hikes for containers from Asia to US east coast ports and to US intermodal points moving through or via US east coast ports are: US$640 (NZD$832) per TEU, $800 per FEU and $900 per 40-foot high-cube.
