Designers have completely redesigned the Winnie The Pooh packaging, according to the report. The doll now sits in a saddle instead of a box. The product information previously printed on the box is now produced on a small paper tag. The doll still maintains the same distinctive sitting pose on the shelf.
The redesign stems from a partnership between Disney Consumer Products and Clean Agency, a consulting firm that specialises in sustainability.
The Clean Agency’s teams undertook a life-cycle analysis of the original Winnie The Pooh packaging to assess its environmental impact. It was the findings from this research that led Disney’s packaging designers to think up a new way of packaging the distinctive product to cut packaging waste, reduce emissions and lower production costs.
Although corrugated cardboard remains the product’s packaging material, the new packaging cuts the amount of cardboard used by nearly 8 metric tonnes per year.
Disney claims the new packaging cuts overall waste by 80 %. The company says the new design also reduces the amount of packaging required for transport and distribution to retailers. – More from the website
